There’s nothing like taking a private water taxi service in Venice to many of the key destinations around the island and the outlying islands. Water taxis are the luxury limousines of Venice with beautifully crafted wooden ships, leather upholstered interiors and rich details. Not only are you getting off quickly to various locations around Venice, but the efficient and courteous service is part of this mode of transportation. You can hire a water taxi service to take you to different vista points around Venice. Here are some of the recommended places to visit:
The main canal
Cruise around the main parts of the main canal and enjoy a highlight tour of Venice island. Ask to schedule a tour of the highlights around Venice island and they will take you to the main sights of the city, including the Grand Canal, Rialto Bridge, San Marco Square, the Bridge of Sighs and Doge’s Palace. Taking a late afternoon to twilight cruise to enjoy the sunset is also a pleasant way to take in the Grand Canal. Ask them to drop you off at San Marco where the evening is just starting off with cafés lined up around the square with live bands and different types of music for you to enjoy.
The quieter canals
Take a cruise to the quieter canals within Venice by water taxi to visit some of the more intimate areas of the city. You’ll see some lovely gardens, bridges, quiet spots and neighborhoods in Venice. When you book this type of cruise with your guide, you will see another aspect of Venice that is outside of the mainstream locations that most of the day-trippers only see.
A nice cruise to Murano island to visit the famous glass-making factories of Murano is recommended. You can see first-hand some live demonstrations of glass-making with some history and information about the glass-blowing process from a variety of glass factories open to the public. Afterwards take a nice walk along the main road which is actually a canal with streets on both sides, lined with amazing showrooms featuring glass art and one of a kind glass sculptures. You just may want to take home some souvenirs and – do not worry – the showrooms ship to any destination around the world.
Burano island further out in the archipelago is a must-see destination in Venice; with its colorful architecture and amazing seafood restaurants offering a bounty of fresh seafood, it’s a true luxury experience while visiting Venice. It is easy to walk through the many canals and bridges around Burano; each spot is almost a picture perfect moment worth capturing. Make sure when you do go to Burano that you visit the historic church of San Martino and its leaning bell tower built in the 15th century. Burano is also well known for its magnificent lace which was developed as a cottage industry since the 16th century. There are many lace shops along the main promenade in Burano;take a look and see some amazing craftsmanship from the wonderful lace artisans.
The outer islands
A water taxi service can also take you to the outer islands including the Lido and Torcello island which are both unique and worth a visit. Torcello was the first island that was inhabited in the archipelago of Venice but is primarily a nature preserve. Major attractions there include the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in 639 and the Museo Provinciale di Torcello housed in two 14th century palaces.
The Lido is where all the beach activity happens in Venice primarily during the Summer time when the beach scene is very popular along with the annual international film festival. Most of the beaches are privately owned to the string of popular hotels including the Hotel Excelsior and the Grand Hotel Les Bains. There are also public beaches that are located on the northern and southern tips of the island.
If you want to avoid the slow and crowded vaporettis and gondolas in Venice, then jetting off in a fast and sleek water taxi is the way to go. Outside of traveling in style, it is a nice way to see a different side of Venice and its islands.
